Your stride is long and swift

Quickly you forge ahead

I lag behind

Still I follow sure and steady

Watching where you lead

The landscape’s larger from this vantage point

I surmise where you are heading

And when obstacles emerge

I call out a word of caution

Once I saw you stumble on a rock

That neither of us saw

I should’ve seen it coming

No matter, you didn’t fall

But you slowed a bit to ponder

Looking back to check your bearings

Noticing I was lagging

You slowed your pace

And waited, walking slowly

Taking time to absorb the beauty

of your surroundings
