Every fountain of delight springs up from your life within me! — Psalm 87:7
This place where yearning faces fear,
Vulnerability asks for a full embrace,
Inclinations stripped and thoughts laid bare,
And every hesitation gone.
Can I let go of all I’ve known?
Human resilience says, “don’t let go”.
Is it a gift or is it a curse?
This tendency to just press on
With comfortable habits of “get it done”,
Avoiding the deep of the water’s flow.
Can I let go of all I’ve known?
Or shall I jump in? Into the unknown?
God feeds the birds and clothes the flowers;
Faith now beckons to the water’s edge.
If I just swim, I control the rhythm,
Measure the distance and the exertion;
But will I give rapids my permission?
And yield to the river’s path?
So I stand where yearning faces fear
Where freedom flows and demands my trust.
Creator of the birds and flowers
Hold me through these tenuous hours
Baptize me in Living Waters.
I let go of all I know.
