Words were not designed to be a boomerang.

Once you throw them out, you can’t take them back.

Words can be an arrow that is sent to wound –

A piercing point aimed to destroy.

Words can be a gavel with judgment’s decree —

Once the wood hits wood, well then that is that.

But words were not designed to be a boomerang;

Once you throw them out, you can’t take them back.

Words of salt can richly season.

Words of wisdom might bring reason.

Some words will assume too much.

And cruel words just accuse too much.

Words become an enemy,

Betraying what no one should see.

Words can be a balm bandaging a wound,

Or scaffolds that lift to the highest height.

Words can be a bridge crossing over to

That greater place of broader sight.

Words can be a mirror of the deepest soul,

Reflecting hidden parts that cannot see light.

But words were not designed to be a boomerang,

Once you throw them out, you can’t take them back.

Words of salt can richly season.

Words of wisdom might bring reason.

A flashlight shined on darkened ground,

Illuminating paths still to be found.

An anchor in the roughest waves.

A lighthouse beacon for our days.

But words were not designed to be a boomerang.

Once you throw them out, you can’t take them back.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. – Psalm 19:14
